Virgin Mobile Kyocera M1000 Wild Card Cell Phone

image The Kyocera M1000 Wild Card isn’t the most sleek-looking phone, but it does have some decent features and functionality. This phone supports email, Bluetooth headsets, web browsing, optional GPS capabilities, instant messaging, and sports a 1.3 MP camera phone. It looks good on paper, but the big question is whether or not this device lives up to its impressive feature-set or are all of these features just novelties to try to get people to buy this phone.

The price of this cell phone is certainly good. You can pick up this Virgin Mobile phone for just $99, and of course, there is no one- or two-year service agreement required. There are various Virgin Mobile service plans available for the Wild Card which I will detail later on in this review. Right off the bat, I’ll tell you that $99 is a great deal for this phone. It’s not very often that you can purchase a smart phone for under $100 without having to sign a long-term service contract. So I have to give the Wild Card some props for having such an affordable price tag.

The Wild Card comes equipped with a battery, a charger, and the manual, but not very many included accessories. A travel charger will cost about $20.

Kyocera Unleashes Trio of CDMA Handsets at CTIA 2008

  imageimage

imageimage

Kyocera launched a triple-play of handsets this week at CTIA 2008, showing off the Neo E1100, Mako S4000, and Adreno S2400. All three handsets are expected to be available in Q3 2008 and feature support for the AWS frequencies (1700/2100MHz).

The Neo E1100 is a fashionable handset that features a bright light-pipe down the front that gets activated with an incoming call or message. This clamshell also sports a 1.3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth 2.0 for wireless headsets. There is also a hidden outer OLED display that comes to life when a call comes in.

The Mako S4000 is a sleek clamshell designed for consumers looking to trade multimedia functions for a good old fashioned attractive handset. The VGA resolution camera and Bluetooth are both present, alongside the external color display. The Mako S4000 will be available in black or silver color schemes, for consumers on a budget.

Last but not least is the retro cool Adreno S2400, another clamshell with a hint of style. The keypad uses high-contrast colors and it sports curved edges and a textured exterior. While overall light on features, the Adreno S2400 supports MP3 ringtones and sports an external caller ID display, for convenience.

Cyclops is the first phone to benefit from an agreement between Virgin Mobile and Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG), giving U.S. cellular customers access to music-based TXT Tones from Virgin Mobile. With access to hundreds of tunes from WMG’s catalog, Virgin Mobile is the first wireless provider in the U.S. to launch an exclusive text tone deal with a major record label. The 3.5-ounce Cyclops is also the first handset to carry Virgin Mobile Audio Messaging, or VAM, which allows instant messages to be sent by voice instead of keyboard. Pearl-white with a red stripe down the middle, Cyclops also includes a 1.3-megapixel camera, long battery life, cool games and Superphonic, real music ring tones.

Cyclops takes text messaging to a new level with TXT Tones that work just like ring tones, but are linked to text messages. Virgin Mobile’s new TXT Tones allow the phone user to program a short clip of a song alerting that a new text message has been received on his or her handset. Each text tone is about three to five seconds long and can be assigned to incoming text and picture messages, offering the users the option to assign personalized TXT Tones for anyone in their phone book. The WMG catalog will be available only to Virgin Mobile customers starting November 2 through November 14, 2006.

Cyclops’ striking exterior color scheme is complemented by a stunning internal color display, as well as an external display that shows the time and caller ID. The handset comes pre-loaded with three great games — Lumines Mobile, New York Nights and Bikini Beach Party — with scores more available for download. An internal antenna makes for a sleeker and more pocketable design, while features like an integrated speakerphone and voice-activated dialing notch up the convenience.

Weighing in at just over 4 ounces, the sleek and stylish Switch_Back offers great functionality within a compact and trendsetting clamshell casing. Among its most notable features are two vibrant color displays. The first display on the front face of the phone is for voice calls. But by turning the phone sideways and giving its face a quick flip, users reveal the Switch_Back’s widescreen — along with a sizeable QWERTY keypad designed to make emailing, texting, IMing, gaming or browsing online a breeze.

“We’re excited to continue our winning partnership with Virgin Mobile USA,” said Tom Maguire, vice president of global marketing at Kyocera Wireless Corp. “With its cool content, unique look and suite of tools designed around today’s mobile lifestyles, the Switch_Back is the ideal constant companion for Virgin Mobile customers. This is going to be a hot handset for 2006.

    Kyocera K10 Royale Review

    Review by CNET

You can literally light up a room with the inexpensive Kyocera K10 Royale from prepaid carrier Virgin Mobile. In a very Virgin Mobile touch, the screen and keyboard brightly flash like a semaphore lamp when a call comes in; the handset also has a top-mounted LED flashlight that throws a bright beam. Beyond the light show, there’s not much else to say about this compact handset. It has only the most basic features, and the bare-bones construction may not be for everyone. But don’t let its simplicity distract you from what this handset does best: provide loud and clear sound for conversations. It’s also fairly priced at $49.99.
