Alcatel has launched a new clamshell handset, the OTE 227 Butterfly, that will be available exclusively on Orange pay as you go options throughout Phones4U’s stores across the UK.
The mobile, on sale now for £9.99, offers a 1.5-inch TFT 65K colour screen, 325 hours’ standby battery life, 10 hours’ talk time and weighs 70 grams.
Alcatel always manage to get one thing right with their products, and that would be the price. For £14.99 you don’t expect a comprehensive Smartphone and that’s exactly what you get. It takes mobiles back to the basics, offering you calls, games and contacts in a sleek candybar phone. It’s a tiny 11mm thick and provides up to 10 hours of talk time with 400 hours of standby.
It boasts a 1.8 inch colour screen and a VGA camera, which connects to your PC and acts as a webcam. I’m quite impressed with this function as this is an unusual option to offer in such a budget model. You also get 2MB of internal memory which is enough to store some MP3s, up to 200 contacts and only weighs 69 grams!
It’s available exclusively at Woolworths on Virgin mobile pay as you go, and is a great first phone for any teen/tween (they start early nowadays).

The OT-S210 is an entry-level candybar handset from Alcatel Mobile Phones that sports a 1.5″ color display. Available in all black, with optional green or fuchsia trim, this stylish handset offers very few features, keeping things simple.
The S210 supports polyphonic ringtones and can store up to 250 names and numbers in its built-in phone book. Calculator and alarm clock functions are built-in, helping to keep you organized, and the speakerphone allows for hands-free calling. Pricing and availability have not been announced for the OT-S210.

Look and feel
The mirrored flat keypad gives the Alcatel OT-V770 a real sense of prestige. Its slim build makes it comfortable and light in the hand.
Ease of use
Despite there being no definition amongst the buttons, the numeric keys are spaced out enough that there shouldn’t be any accidental key nudges. The various menu icons are a breeze to navigate around.

With a built-in music player, Alcatel has also bundled in a 2GB microSD card so there is plenty of space for you to store your media content. The handset also boasts a webcam that can be hooked up to your PC, a 1.3-megapixel camera as well as Stereo Bluetooth.
Performance
The music player is the handsets standout feature, with various ways of storing and displaying your tunes. The camera in today’s multi-pixel market may disappoint, but this should be compensated by the fact you can record unlimited length video.

The GlamPhone comes with what Alcatel styles a “Bluetooth Jewel”. Good, I thought - sparklies! Alas no, because despite the flurry of exclamation marks proclaiming the add-on as an “exclusive accessory”, this “Bluetooth jewel” turns out to be a steel “charm” attached to a black necklace. It’s a bit Camden Market if you ask me, but is cunningly shaped to take hold of your Bluetooth earpiece should you feel a wally walking around all day with it in your ear.

Alcatel’s Elle No. 3 is the 3rd special edition phone the company has made with the famous French fashion magazine. Alcatel has also made handsets with other fashion companies, such as Lollipops. The Elle 3 is a triband (850/1800/1900MHz) GSM handset that the company hopes will make a bit of a splash in North America, the market that the company announced its intentions of entering at this year’s CTIA show.
The OT-S853 - is an impressive music player delivering 2.1 stereo surround sound with innovative design. It is equipped with 1.3 megapixel camera and it contains a number of technological advances such as audio and video streaming through EDGE, Bluetooth, an FM Radio, Push to Talk and mini SD memory card slot.
