Nokia has unveiled the Dual Carrier EDGE solution, a new technology which could double the speed of EDGE networks, reports Wired. The technology is a software upgrade which will be released some in Q3. If it is a purely software upgrade, chances are good that we could see a roll out on at least some carriers, although that might change if it requires any sort of hardware restructuring. Regardless, the technology will be followed some time later by EGPRS 2, which will again double the speeds up to a max of 1.2 Mbps. There’s definitely an exciting future for us EDGE users.

Samsung has announced its first MediaFLO TV compatible GSM phone for AT&T, the Samsung SGH-a827 Access. The Access will be one of two devices that will be part of AT&T’s Mobile TV launch in May of this year.
Unlike most candybar feature phones on the market, the Access sports a landscape oriented, 2.3" screen to better suit the television programming that it is intended to display. On top of that, Samsung claims that the Access will offer ‘exceptional’ Mobile TV reception without the need for an external whip antenna. Even Samsung’s own SCH-u620 MediaFLO handset for Verizon Wireless requires an external antenna.

If you were unimpressed with the original launch of Levi’s mobile phone then an "ultra limited edition" Red Tab version is perhaps unlikely to make you reach for your wallet.
If, however you are impressed, then you might like to know that there are only 100 available from posh Parisian retailer Colette, oh, and the price tag is 549 euros, and no, that’s not for all one hundred.

Motorola just announced a new portable DVB-H TV to followup its DH01. The name? DH02, of course. The new mobile TV now features a GPS receiver and Tele Atlas maps, an HSDPA / GPRS back-channel for interactive media, and new "auto-flip" portrait to landscape (presumably via accelerometer) touch-screen display of unspecified dimensions. The UI takes advantage of the touch-screen with an "intuitive click, drag, and scroll" navigation. Moto does call the WQVGA display high-resolution — which is anything but high if the DH02 carries the same 4.3-inch display of the DH01. Motorola also likes to call the DH02 a PVR since it includes a 5 minute buffer for timeshifting, live pause, and frame grabbing. Thing is, while the former DH01 could record video, that capability is not mentioned anywhere in the DH02 press release. Perhaps the microSD slot is dedicated to GPS maps now, instead of recording space. It does offer Bluetooth and, uh hem, "stunning" video playback. Really moto, stunning video from a sub 30fps play rate in a 480 x 272 resolution? Hyperbole of the press release aside, we’re still looking forward to a hands-on at CTIA next week.
