Nokia 7088 Review

7088_press_01.jpg

Inspired by the same indulgent palate of colors and textures that has defined Nokia’s L’Amour Collection, the Nokia 7088 makes its debut today, bringing a new level of sophistication to the CDMA market. The Nokia 7088 is not only the first CDMA model in the popular L’Amour Collection, but it is also the first to apply this collection’s design language to a sliding configuration.

The focus for the Nokia 7088 is design, and its ‘jewel-like’ select key and sculpted d-pad with a metallic frame set it off perfectly. The handset is covered in a leather-like material to enhance the tactile experience when using the device. The Nokia 7088 has an integrated camera with LED flash and a 128×160 pixel display, as well as speakerphone functionality, a voice recorder, and calendar application.

The Nokia 7088 is expected to be available in selected markets in Asia/Pacific, Middle East, Africa, China and Latin America during the 2nd quarter of 2007.

The Helio Ocean Review

ocean-horizontal-3-4.jpg

From CTIA Wireless in Orlando, Helio has announced its new flagship device, the Ocean. The Helio Ocean is a feature-packed handset with an innovative dual-slide design, providing the advantages of both a regular handset keypad and a full QWERTY keyboard in one handy device.

Helio continues cranking out cool new phones with the Helio Ocean. Designed to be as good a phone as a messaging device, the Ocean features a dual-slide design that has numbers sliding out from the bottom and a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from the side. It also features an “Ultimate Inbox” that combines text messages with email and IMs from AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, Gmail, and more. Other features include a 2.0 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and microSD storage.

Technical specifications of the 159g (5.61oz) device are quite impressive, with a 2.0 megapixel camera, 2.4″ 262k color QVGA display, and EV-DO high-speed data. Support for MP3, AAC, and WMA DRM audio files and MPEG-4, H.264, and VOD video help fill the 200MB internal memory and microSD memory expansion slot, and USB Mass Storage support helps you get your files to the handset. Bluetooth with the A2DP stereo headset profile lets you listen to music without wires, and a battery good for 5.1 hours of talk time is bundled.

* EV-Do
* GPS
* Exchange Server and ActiveSync integration
* Google Maps

LG VX9400 Review

01425sz1i15498700.jpg

1.3-megapixel camera is decent outdoors, with just a few wavy compression artifacts, but it had some blur issues in our low-light tests. The video mode isn’t nearly as good as the Samsung U620’s. Although the VX9400 shoots movies in 320-by-240 resolution, like the Samsung, it captures video at only 7 frames per second. You can store pictures or MP3 or WMA music files on a microSD card tucked into a slot on the side of the phone; my 2GB SanDisk card worked fine. Though you need a USB cable and special software to sync music with Windows Media Player, you can also upload songs directly via Bluetooth or using a PC-based card reader.”

To optimize your viewing experience, this 4.1-ounce, 0.7-inch thick slider boasts an innovative 2.2-inch QVGA display that swivels into landscape mode. LG calls it a Swing Bar design, and we think it will win a lot of fans. The VX9400 sports a retractable antenna for enhanced TV reception and a soft-touch coating for a comfy grip. You can receive voice calls and text messages while watching TV.

LG VX9400 features include:

  • 1.3MP Camera (up to 1280×960 for pix, and 320×240 for vids)
  • MP3/WMA Music Player
  • MicroSD Slot
  • Speakerphone
  • Voice Commands
  • Bluetooth Version 1.2
  • Dimensions 4.04″H x 1.93″W x 0.73″D
  • Weight 4.06oz

    ecusr1048na.JPG

    The Palm Z22 organizer was designed by the makers of the original Palm Pilot specifically for people who haven’t seen what a handheld organizer can do. Everything is super simple; a touch of a button brings up your appointments, addresses, and more. The Palm Z22 organizer even comes with an easy three-step set-up poster to get you up and running.

    Everything looks great on the Palm Z22 organizer’s bright, colorful screen. Names and addresses are easy to read, appointments can be color-coded, and photos come to life. In light or dark rooms, it truly shines. Once you put information into the Palm Z22 organizer, you can rest assured it’ll stay there. Even if you forget to recharge and the power runs out. What’s more, you can save everything to your computer. All it takes is a quick cable hook-up and a simple tap. It’s one of the smallest, lightest color organizers around. You’ll find that the Palm Z22 organizer fits nicely into your pocket or purse. So you can carry years of appointments, thousands of addresses, hundreds of photos, your to-do lists, a note pad, and still you’re never weighed down.

    I-mate Jaq3 Review

    imate_jaq3_1_large.jpg

    The JAQ3 is a Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC Phone Edition device running AKU 3.2. It’s got a quad band GSM world phone inside that will work anywhere GSM service is available and it has EDGE (but no 3G) for data. US carriers don’t offer i-mate branded products, rather they’re sold unlocked for use with any GSM carrier via importers and online specialty retailers. The JAQ3 was just released so online pricing is a bit variable but we expect it to average $550 to $599 in the US after initial demand decreases.

    The JAQ3 is finished in black and made of plastic with a non-slip surface. Indeed it looks much more like the Samsung BlackJack than the ugly duckling i-mate JAQ (no word on why there was no JAQ2, perhaps to denote even further separation from the original JAQ). The JAQ3 will suit large-handed folks best since it’s both wide and tall. Thin is in though, and the 14.5mm JAQ3 is currently the thinnest Pocket PC phone, dethroning the 15.5mm E-TEN Glofiish X500. The JAQ3’s sides have more curves and taper, making the otherwise angular device feel better in hand than the edgy BlackJack, though the JAQ3’s greater size may negate that improvement for those with smaller hands.

    Features

  • Windows Mobile 5.0
  • 200MHz processor
  • 2.0 MP Camera
  • 128MB ROM / 64MB RAM
  • 4 hrs Talktime
  • 150 hrs Stand-By
  • Scroll wheel

    HP iPAQ 51X Voice Messenger Review

    01425sz1i15261700.jpg

    HP recently announced a candy-bar smart phone as the latest addition to its iPAQ series. This new addition is part of HP’s strategy to complete its enterprise portfolio of desktops, laptops, servers, and mobile devices; it will be sold as 510 in the US, 512 in Asia and 514 in Europe. This phone definitely lacks the pizzaz needed for the consumer market, and the 176 by 220 screen resolution is the proof. On the other hand, HP has put a lot of effort into it to make it attractive for the enterprise market. This Windows Mobile 6 Standard device features a UMA client which will enable VoIP calls over the enterprise WiFi network using the IP based PBX. The phone will make VoIP for calls whenever possible and will switch to regular GSM network calls when VoIP is not possible. It can transition between the two seamlessly. This can prove beneficial to companies trying to reduce their communication costs. This phone also features a voice recognition system and can read out emails.
